On May 17, I had the absolute honor of capturing James and Rachel’s wedding day at Succop Nature Park in Butler County, Pennsylvania. With its sprawling 117-acre grounds, historic mansion, and versatile indoor-outdoor options, Succop Nature Park offers couples the perfect blend of natural beauty and elegant architecture for their special day. Between the unpredictable spring weather, clouds rolling in and out, and the wildest pollen swirl I’ve ever seen, the day still unfolded like a divine love letter. These two — deeply grounded in their faith and in each other — brought so much light to a cloudy day, and I’m still reliving it in my mind. Their joy, their love, and their people made this Pennsylvania outdoor wedding unforgettable.
James and Rachel spent the morning getting ready at the historic mansion on the Succop property. It was laid-back and full of laughter — just friends and family hanging out, music playing, everyone excited. The natural light flooding through the mansion’s windows always photographs beautifully, and the calm before the ceremony gave me space to capture sweet candid moments between Rachel and her bridesmaids and James with his childhood friends. The bridal suite at Succop Nature Park provides the perfect setting for these precious pre-ceremony moments.
This moment. Wow. We chose a quiet corner near the mansion for their First Look photos — mindful of the weather because at any minute it could go from sunshine to storm. And yet, as if it was meant to be, the wind softened and Rachel stepped out. James’ face said it all. She was stunning. His reaction was full of awe and love. Rachel’s emotions spilled over, and even though the moment was private, friends and family peeked from inside the mansion with teary eyes and full hearts. These emotional first look moments are why I love photographing weddings at venues like Succop.
Rachel’s bridesmaids — a mix of sisters and best friends — brought sweet energy to the day, while James’ groomsmen (lifelong friends since childhood) kept things light and joyful. Their love for the couple was so obvious, and being around them felt like a warm hug. The wedding party photos around Succop’s grounds captured their genuine connections perfectly.
The outdoor ceremony was set in front of the mansion, under a sky that couldn’t quite decide what it wanted to do. It had been rainy, cloudy, and chaotic — but right before Rachel walked down the aisle, the clouds broke and sunlight poured through. It honestly felt like a divine wink, like someone up there cleared the skies just for them. There were giggles as the couple struggled to light their unity candles because of the wind — a moment both hilarious and beautiful in its imperfection. This is why having a weather-flexible venue like Succop Nature Park is so valuable for Pennsylvania weddings.
Because of the weather, we kept portraits close to the mansion — and honestly, that backdrop? Timeless. Between the historic architecture, soft light, and natural setting, it felt like stepping into a romantic film. These two made my job easy — every hug, every glance, every laugh was real. The Succop mansion wedding photos showcase why this venue is such a popular choice for couples seeking that classic, elegant aesthetic.
Their reception felt like home — cozy, joyful, and filled with love. Rachel’s dad held back tears during his toast (and almost had us all crying), and James’ best friend gave one of the most clever and funny speeches I’ve ever heard. And the dance floor? Electric. At one point, Rachel caught me singing along behind my camera and suddenly everyone around me joined in — before I knew it, we were all singing out loud the lyrics together in this spontaneous sing-along circle. It was hilarious and unforgettable! The Succop Nature Park reception space created the perfect atmosphere for these magical moments.
There were so many, but a few stand out:
James and Rachel’s story began on Bumble back in August 2019. From their first date at Cinderlands Warehouse to living through lockdown together, their love blossomed through simple, everyday moments. When James proposed during their trip to Iceland — on top of a hill on a quiet island — they knew their bond was meant to last. (And yes, Rachel did text her sister after their first date saying, “Woah, I think I could marry that guy.” She was right.)
Rachel describes James as a gentle, selfless soul — silly, driven, and someone you want by your side in a storm. James says Rachel is intuitive, brilliant, and his safest place. Together, they share daily hugs, love notes, weekend breakfasts, and lots of laughter.
They’re the kind of couple who makes a rainy day feel warm.
Travel together. Get out of town. Face new places as a team. That’s what makes your bond grow stronger. ❤️
